Two large leisure schemes in Trowbridge are going through the planning process at the moment. Despite what the developers may say its extremely unlikely they'll both go ahead. But which one would the people of the town and surrounding area prefer?

Prorsus' concept for the Bowyer's site is for an 8-screen Cineworld cinema, a Morrison's foodstore, six 'family restaurants', a pub, coffee shops and over 500 parking spaces. There would be a riverside walk and a 'civic square'. They say the project is fully funded and could be built out by Christmas 2013 if the planning process doesn't cause hold-ups.

For the St Stephen's Place site developers Legal & General claim to have operators ready to move in and hope to have the building work completed by 2013. Their development would consist of an eight-screen cinema, an 80-bed hotel, and 'family orientated' restaurants. There would be on-site parking for 100 cars. They were given planning permission in February and work has started on site.

A poll conducted on this site during January and February showed clear support for the Prorsus scheme - 79 votes (88%) against 11 votes (12%) for L&G.
