Wiltshire Council goes on the defensive over Panorama abuse exposures

30 Oct 2012

WC has issued a lengthy statement explaining why the abuse of Wiltshire residents shown in the Winterbourne view Panorama programme shown last May, and the follow-up shown last night, is not its fault. It blames the NHS for the failings which allowed vulnerable adults to be abused over long periods of time and in different establishments.

Describing care for adults with learning difficulties as "difficult", WC claims that it, "Did carry out an investigation at Postern House near Marlborough following safeguarding alerts (but) ... were confident that there was insufficient evidence to substantiate a crime or abuse."

Apparently, "Postern House providers Ridgeway Partnership reacted quickly to advise the council of the safeguarding alerts and acted appropriately to support the investigation."
