Wiltshire Energy Efficiency Boost following Lib Dem success at Council meeting

Wiltshire is one step closer to improved energy resilience after Wiltshire Council yesterday accepted a motion from Lib Dem councillors Steve Oldrieve and Jon Hubbard that will provide the framework for future energy cost savings and carbon reduction.

The motion seeks to set-up County wide forum working in partnership to reduce unnecessary energy usage and save money.

Councillor Steve Oldrieve proposed the motion to the meeting of Wiltshire Council saying, "We need to see much better savings from our climate change performance across Wiltshire and Wiltshire Council must take a leadership role".

The acceptance of this policy by council is a huge boost for those looking to improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions in the county and was welcomed by Cllr Jon Hubbard, leader of the Liberal Democrat group, who said "I welcome that the administration have reacted positively to this innovative motion from my Group and look forward to seeing the investigative work undertaken to work with partners, both public and private across the County.

"The uptake of this policy really shows the effectiveness of hardworking Liberal Democrats on Council. Unlike some of the opposition councillors, we will continue to work hard with Officers and, where necessary, the administration to continue delivering for the people of Wiltshire. For us it's about hard work not headlines."

Wiltshire Lib Dem Member of Parliament Duncan Hames commented, "Making Wiltshire more energy efficient is win-win for local residents and businesses. It's a smart first step that will help cut energy costs and protect the environment at the same time."

This move could see Wiltshire Council working with its partner groups over the next six months to set up the Carbon Resilience board, reporting back to full council in February.
