Wiltshire Money
Wiltshire residents needing information and advice about money problems can get the help they need from a partnership of local organisations.
Wiltshire Money is a collaboration of local organisations working together to help people make informed financial choices and be in control of their money.
Its partners include Wiltshire Council, Wiltshire Citizens Advice, Community First, Wiltshire Community Bank, NHS Wiltshire, Nationwide Building Society and the county's housing associations.
Its vision is to improve the quality of life of those in economic need through improved financial capability and better access to advice, financial products and services.
Wiltshire Council is already working with the three credit unions across the county to create Wiltshire Community Bank.
The bank was launched in November and provides people with a range of useful financial services including affordable loans, savings, budgeting accounts and payroll deductions.
Wiltshire Community Bank also helps people needing loans with the Wiltshire Moneyline Loans. Credit unions can offer loans of up to £500 through this scheme, which is a safer way to borrow money rather than illegal money lenders, or unscrupulous internet and door-step lenders. These loans also have a much lower interest rate than other lenders.
A credit union is a community bank which operates as a co-operative and is regulated by the government through the Financial Services Authority. Members have the opportunity to make savings, take affordable loans and benefit from other services offered.
Recently Wiltshire Money carried out a pilot project in Trowbridge with NHS Wiltshire and the local children's centres to hold information and awareness sessions on financial inclusion for staff working with children and families in the area.
