Wingfield wants a lower limit

3 Jun 2013

Wingfield Parish Council are pressing for a 30mph limit through the village. They have the support of local residents, Andrew Murrison MP, local Wiltshire councillor Magnus MacDonald, and The Mead school - but not of Wiltshire Council, which is refusing to consider the idea.

Senior Teacher at the school Robert Cunningham has written to WC asking them to reconsider. He describes an incident where a speeding motorist came close to mowing down a group of children crossing the road despite the presence of escorting adults with high viz clothing. "In our experience," he says, "the current posted limit of 4omph is unsuitable in this location and a change to 30mph would encourage motorists to reduce their speed."

If WC agrees to reconsider then a final decision could be made by the cabinet member for Highways John Thomson.
