Working hard to clean up Melksham

1 Nov 2013

A new scheme championed by local councillor Jon Hubbard is being set up to allow local communities to take positive action to help clear up litter in Melksham.

"For a long time local residents across Melksham have told me that they would be happy to help with keeping their local area clear if they had the necessary equipment to do the job" Cllr Hubbard commented.

"This scheme allows just that. We will give local teams, groups of 4 or 5, the kit they need, they just need to commit to spending 30 to 45 minutes once a week helping to keep their local area litter free.

"I know there are some who will feel that it is the council's job to clear up litter, but I feel very strongly that we all have a responsibility to look after the area we live in."

Participants on the scheme will also qualify to earn discounts on events organised by Melksham Town Council at the Assembly Hall following a request to the Town Council by Jon Hubbard.

Those wanting to get involved should contact the Town Hall or Cllr Jon Hubbard for further details.
