A candidate to serve South West Wiltshire

Councillor Mel Jacob, Wiltshire Council's Deputy Leader has been selected by the Liberal Democrats to fight the next General Election in South West Wiltshire

The move comes after the Lib Dems topped the poll in the Constituency in the May 2025 Council Elections. That result delivered Lib Dem gains across Trowbridge where Mel was re-elected with an increased majority.

"I live, work and have raised my family here. So I care deeply about our residents and the communities of South West Wiltshire. It is an incredible honour to be picked to stand up for them against the divisive policies of Reform UK and the mess the Conservatives made when they ran our County and Country.

Many people tell me they feel let down by a Labour Government that is failing to deliver the change it promised. With not a single Labour or Green Party Councillor on Wiltshire Council, it is up to the Liberal Democrats to take the positive and practical actions to help tackle the cost of living crisis, invest in our NHS, help local businesses to thrive and build truly affordable homes so our young people can learn, live and work here. These are my campaigning priorities. Most importantly, I will listen to residents and work hard for every part of South West Wiltshire," said Mel.

Before Mel became Deputy Leader of Wiltshire Council she had a successful career in business management in the private, public and educational sectors.
